David R. Doran served almost 35 years total in the Army National Guard (ARNG), with 27 years on active duty. He retired in 2025 as a Brigadier General and Assistant Director of the Army National Guard for Aviation, Intelligence and Information at National Guard Bureau (NGB) in Arlington, Virginia. A career Army Aviator, “Dave” has commanded at all levels through brigade command. He has served in numerous critical roles at the national level, overseeing complex, enterprise level programs such as the ARNG Aviation program of over 1,500 aircraft, the ARNG Military Intelligence and Security enterprise and the Army National Guard Information Technology and Cyber Security enterprise with oversight of the DODIN-A (NG) as sole Authorizing Official. He has also managed the ARNG Missile and Air Defense, UAS and cUAS, Electromagnetic Warfare, Information Operations and Space portfolios.
Dave served in the Office of the Chief of National Guard Bureau as Executive Officer to the 29th CNGB and as a strategic planner for the 28th CNGB. He has served on NBG Joint Staff as well as the US Joint Staff. His commands include commander of a CH-47D Chinook detachment, commander of a C-23 Sherpa company, commander of a UC-35 Regional Flight Center, commander of the Operational Support Airlift Command (OSACOM) and commander of the 77th Combat Aviation Brigade. He has logged over 2,800 total flight hours, including 875 combat flight hours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He is qualified in multiple rotor and fixed wing aircraft, including the OH-58 A/C, CH-47D, C-12, C-23, UC-35 and UH-72.
Dave has a BS from Western Oregon University, a Law Degree (JD) from Seattle University School of Law and an MS in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College. He attended Harvard University as a National Security Fellow and also served as a fellow in Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Seminar XXI. He has completed several executive level courses in national security management as well as AI and Data-driven leadership at MIT, Harvard, Carnegie Mellon and Syracuse University.
He is married and has six children and lives in Northern Virginia.
