About
Brigadier General (Ret) Joe Hargett has over 37 years of distinguished military service in the US Army, with his last assignment as the full-time Assistant Adjutant General for the Mississippi National Guard. Joe was
simultaneously assigned to the role of Deputy Commanding General for Mobilization, 1st Army (Title 10) during this time, where he managed Large Scale Mobilization Operations (LSMO) programming, planning and execution supporting the global mobilization enterprise.
He joined PAL in 2025 as Senior Advisor, Army & Army National Guard.
Joe’s experiences are centered on executive administration, operations, and training management at
both the state and federal levels, with extensive knowledge in multiple disciplines. His strengths include
strategic planning, collaborative and integrated problem solving, and providing systematic solutions to
complex problem sets based on his vast experiences.
In Joe’s role as full-time Assistant Adjutant General for Mississippi, he was responsible for federal and
state budget programs, procurement processes, operations and training programs, as well as human
resource functions of the Mississippi National Guard. Joe is a proven combat leader with multiple tours
supporting the CENTCOM AOR in Iraq. He commanded at multiple levels of the US Army and National
Guard, including at the Company, Battalion, and Brigade levels, to include commanding a combat
engineer battalion in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2008-2009. The battalion was primarily tasked with
conducting Counter IED operations. Among Joe’s other notable assignments during his career include
serving as Brigade Commander; the G3 Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations; Chief of the Joint Staff; and
Director, Joint Staff of the Mississippi National Guard.
Joe currently serves as a Board Member of the National Guard Association of the United States as the
Region 4 Army Representative (2013-present) and as Chairman, Bylaws Committee. Other previous state
association positions include Past President and past Vice-President, National Guard Association of
Mississippi (NGAMS). Joe continues his service to the State of Mississippi and its Veterans in his current
role as Program Manager for the Mississippi Board of Veteran Affairs.
